Re: Interview with Guido van Rossum about Google App Engine

When I found out the interview was getting piped through google pr, my
interest in participating dropped. It's too bad because it probably
could've been an interesting dialogue. I don't fault either Crag or Guido
for this, its just the nature of the beast (and a sad testament to the
way things have become).

That said, it is my understanding that the google
guys who saw my talk @ esw were initially there to attack me, this is
based off of second hand knowledge, but none of the people who told me
they were going around bragging before my talk about what they were going
to do have given me any reason to disbelieve them. That said, it didn't
actually occur, the only person from Google who spoke to me was Chris
Evans, who was very nice and polite. I'm not sure if this was encouraged
by their employer or not, but it certainly further damaged my opinion of
the company.

If anyone wants to approach the subject without their corporate
sponsorship, I would be more than happy to discuss so long as it is an
honest dialogue that isn't just another attempt at sales/marketing/et
cetera.

The entire interview can be summarized as "Sorry, we cannot divulge
any information about what we did to secure App Engine, but we did
stuff. Trust us."

This is the worst kind of PR talk and I'm really disappointed that
it's coming from somebody who is actually capable of discussing
the real technical issues.
