I'm not sure why Font means both "a source of something" and "the way
letters look" in English.

"Font" as a source comes via early english from the latin word "fons",
fountain, implying a source or upwelling of something bursting forth; "font"
as a typeface comes from the french word "fonte", or casting, from the Latin
"fundere", to pour forth, via the old french "fondre", to melt, referring to
the casting of a set of type.
