and of course module != file. kernel modules are things which are loaded into kernel space. some people may now them also as a drivers, although I prefer the term module for some reasons.
you probably prefer it because it's more accurate. Not all kernel modules are drivers, if they were then the layout for kernel module directories could all be under ~kernel/drivers and would make life boring. Alternative argument: all kernel modules are drivers (there you go, talk about a balanced arguement.. or should that be parameter.) ;) M
