as soon as possible.  Hewlett-Packard Company will not be liable for any
consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

PROBLEM:  ftpd and ftp incorrectly manage buffers.

PLATFORM: HP9000 Series 700/800 running HP-UX releases 10.01, 10.10,
          10.20, 11.00, and 11.11.

DAMAGE:   Remote users could execute unauthorized code.

SOLUTION: Install the appropriate patch for HP-UX releases as
          described below:

             10.01 or 10.10          PHNE_23947,
             10.20                   PHNE_23948,
             11.00                   PHNE_23949,
             11.11                   PHNE_23950.

AVAILABILITY: All patches are available now.

A.  Background
    CERT Advisory CA-2001-07 references a problem with ftp server
    glob() funtion implementation.  The full text is available at:

B.  Recommended solution
    The problem can be fully rectified by application of one of
    these patches to the appropriate HP-UX release:
             10.01, or 10.10         PHNE_23947,
             10.20                   PHNE_23948,
             11.00                   PHNE_23949,
             11.11                   PHNE_23950.

C. To subscribe to automatically receive future NEW HP Security

PLATFORM: HP9000 Servers running HP-UX 11.04 (VVOS), VirtualVault only.

DAMAGE:   Potential unauthorized privileged access.

SOLUTION: Install the appropriate patch for the VirtualVault release:
             VirtualVault 4.0               PHSS_24169,
             VirtualVault 4.5               PHSS_24212.

      program incorrectly performs its functions, with a potential
      to allow unauthorized privileged access.

II.   Recommended solution
      Application of the appropriate patch selected from the list below
      completely solves this problem.

      For VirtualVault releases:
             VirtualVault 4.0               PHSS_24169,
             VirtualVault 4.5               PHSS_24212.
