bind does not bind 0.0.0.0:53. It for one or another reason binds every interface separately. Hence if an interface is not available at bind start time and bind does not run as root the interfaces are not rebound.
It is necessary to separately bind to the interfaces in order to determine which interface a request came in on. This is needed for some of bind's security mechanisms. -- Nathan ------------------------------------------------------------ Nathan Neulinger EMail: nneul () umr edu University of Missouri - Rolla Phone: (573) 341-4841 CIS - Systems Programming Fax: (573) 341-4216
