Disclaimer: I do not work for Stanford's Office of Technology Licensing, do not use SRP, know very little about it, and know nothing specific about Stanford's plans concerning it. I just happen to know where to find additional information about technology licensing at the university. David Wheeler <dwheeler () IDA ORG> writes:
Trouble is, I understand that SRP is in the process of being patented, a fact never mentioned on the SRP website as far as I can tell. Here's my source: http://www.securityportal.com/closet/closet19991208.html

I looked at this last year, and abandoned SRP once I learned of its patent status. If there's more information, I'd love to hear about it. In particular, I would LOVE to hear that its patent situation has improved. I don't think the issue is Wu, I think the issue is what Stanford intends to do. Given a generous patent grant, I'd be happy to use SRP, and it's quite possible things have changed (I hope they have).
Here is the current reference: <http://availtech.stanford.edu/Scripts/otl.cgi/docket?docket=97-006> Stanford patents are all managed by the Office of Technology Licensing. If you have any questions about Stanford intellectual property, they're the people that you need to talk to, since the other portions of the university all cede authority to them. This page still lists the patent status as pending. The contact given on this page is: Kirsten Leute, Associate, Stanford University Office of Technology Licensing E-Mail: kirsten.leute () stanford edu Phone: (650) 725-9407 Those who are curious about the licensing status should probably direct inquiries to that address. -- Russ Allbery (rra () stanford edu) <http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/>
