This Page Posted May 9, 1997

You can now download the fix for a security issue that could affect
customers who view PowerPoint files from the Internet.

The problem involves the potential misuse of a PowerPoint 95/97
feature that allows an application to be run from within PowerPoint
without warning the user. The problem can occur in browsers such as
Internet Explorer that support the viewing of PowerPoint files from
within the browser. The fix we have provided will prompt you before
any PowerPoint file is opened from within Internet Explorer.

A top priority is to provide a complete PowerPoint solution, which
Microsoft will make available to customers as soon as possible. Stay
tuned to this page for further information.

No users have reported problems due to this issue.

Microsoft would like to thank Webmaster Andrew Smith for discovering
this issue, bringing it to our attention, and helping us test the
solution. Mr. Smith is a Webmaster for Kaiser Permanente in Latham,
