I see to attack vectors, in both cases the host must be infected:

A) if the host is infected with a malware that uses remote exploits in the
private network to spread. I think this is not even an uncommon scenario
B) the host is infected with a virtualization-aware malware, that uses known
vulnerabilities in host virtualization software.

I was wondering how vulnerable are virtual machines that are in a
"host-only" setup?  The host os can communicate to the guest os.

Are these systems susceptible to certain attacks?  Do unpatched host systems
in this configuration pose the same threat as an unpatched guest os?
