Depends on the mail server, if you use exchange 2010 remote wipe is built in to this for free.

We have tested on iphone, android, nokia and windows mobile and it works well. 

If you have a OWA frontend the user can even action the remote wipe themselves.

Have you thought about "Good" ?
it works on idevices, android, and some windows mobile devices I think.
It is an enterprise type solution and sandboxs the email \ calendar \ address book portion which is encrypted and 
seperate from the rest of the data on the device its also remotely wipeable Good.com And recent story about it in action

I've recently bee charged with customizing a policy to enable personal devices(Cell Phones) to access corporate e-mail.

Given the fact that there is likely to be a degree of information that I wouldn't want people to walk away with/ able 
to access in the event that the device is stolen; I'm looking into 3rd party apps to be able to wipe the device\ remove 
the corporate information.

Any ideas?
