UK Regulatory/Compliance requirements

I am working on project for my IT Sec masters program, and I was
hoping someone in this group might have some info for me!
Specifically, I am trying to find out what IT/Financial
regulations/compliance affect UK Law offices.  To be honest, I am not
quite sure how to look for that information.  All new to me, as I am
American :-) Also, I would love to have an estimate on what a small
law office security budget might be. Thanks ahead of time for any help
