Simon,

The term ripper is slang for 'RIPA' which is short for Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

It is not a standard, its a UK Law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_of_Investigatory_Powers_Act_2000

It was introduced to allow UK Authorities to monitor various forms of communication.

You should also check up on 'Telecommunications (Lawful Business Practice) (Interception of Communications)
Regulations' as it allows things that RIPA prevents. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2000/2699/contents/made

Subject: Ripper Security Standard

NOT John the....

A customer (a telco) has told me that they adhere to Ripper Security Standards.

I have no clue what this is & need to present a gap analysis report to them.

Can anyone shed some light on it for me?
