Hi,

If you practically look at the chance of two nodes having same MAC
address, it would be very rare considering that most networks at data
link layer would have less machines connected. And if a network has
lot of machines on same broadcast network, it would be considered bad
network design.

In that rare event, if you have same MAC address as that of someone
else on the network, you would know it in few minutes as the
connectivity would keep on losing as the MAC address table entries at
the switch/router get overwritten. Then again you can change MAC
address to some random value!
