Jason,

My thoughts are along the same lines. Some kind of IPS between the
protected network(s) and any hostile network would be good as well.
For example, Cisco
(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2113/index.html) or
Snort (http://www.snort.org/).

I'm looking for different solutions out there that can be used in a layered approach to block malware/known malware
sites before a user's desktop gets infected.

So far, I've come up with only a couple thoughts
--DNS/IP black hole malware sites
--use an appliance specifically designed to detect/block malware such as FireEye

Other thoughts?

Thanks.
