There are many good places that cover tutorial and walk throughs but the
most important thing is to test those skills as you develop them. For
this I highly suggest you check out www.smashthestack.org and its
wargames. They offer many different wargames of varying difficulty and
they cover a large range of challenges. Some of the basic concepts you
can work on are:

- Buffer Overflows
- Format String Vulnerabilities
- Md5 Collisions
- Adjacement Memory Overflow
- Off by 1 errors
- Brainfuck programming language
- Many various programming challenges

There is a very active community on IRC, especially for the first
game which is called IO. You can find more info from their website or
talk with people at irc.smashthestack.org in #IO
