What you can do is, download the VMware converter(http://www.vmware.com/products/converter) and make an image of your physical machine.

I would give it a new MAC Address(http://www.vmware.com/support/ws45/doc/network_macaddr_ws.html) and change the IP address once its powered up. You wouldn't have any clashes the second time.

Subject: Win XP - VMware

Hi,
I'm playing around with some pen-testing and to learn basics I want to exploit a SP0/SP1 version of Windows XP by running it in VMware. I own a copy of Win Xp pro, but do not have an installation disk pre SP2. Anyone know if theres a way to get a hold of either an installation disk to make my own VMware image, or even better a pre-made, known exploitable image?

PS: I am not asking or encouraging use of "pirated" software, I own this software. And only looking for an older version\more practical container.

Regards
Simen
