Hi,

i think using Backtrack with vmware will be a good solution.

Want to add one more thing.

use Virtual Honeynet. more on this can be found on
securityfocus.(http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1506)

Before this, I think a more secure network should be used.
VMware is a very good product but what about your LAN ?

If you don't have a strong firewall, you should used a Level 2 management
switch and create VLAN.
On your VLAN, put a router and set outbound rules to deny all except HTTP,
HTTPs and DNS.
This VLAN will access only Internet.

(hope I'm clear)

Hi,

Just use Backtrack linkux. It includes almost everthing(all scanners,
banner grabbers, password crackers, exploits etc ) that you need to start
penetrating testing.

Subject: home-lab environment

Hi,

I would like to take your opinion about setting a home-lab enviroment
for security practising/learning more. Mostly for pen testing and
security analyzing etc. We have virtualization software available
these days (vmware etc) for running diferent hosts as you know. So
what devices software etc can you recommend for such an enviroment?

Regards
