Re: jitter testing

i have to test different systems
cisco is one of them

i had problems on a 3750 with the command "show policy-map interface"
there was a traffic-shaping configured - but the counters didn't change the value (always zero) - with different s/w versions
ideas here?

do anybody know, is my ping calculation ok?
again:
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.194/0.207/0.326/0.015 ms
--> jitter should be 0.326 - 0.194 = 0.132 ?!?

if i want to get one-way jitter, can i do simply rtt/2 ?

Hi,

Do anybody know how to measure delay variation (jitter) in layer2/3 networks? I'm looking for system- or freeware-tools to do this (no commercial tools!).

If You do have Cisco switches/routers (others may apply too) You can use
built-in measuring capabilities. For Cisco IOS-based switches look for
"rtr responder". You can read results from the IOS directly. To graph results You can use eg. Cacti. See http://www.cacti.net/ Cacti needs additional configuration to be able to collect & graph rtr
data. See http://forums.cacti.net/about4136-0-asc-0.html
