Is this on a *nix box or a Windows box?

I'm not proficient in *nix enough to speak confidently, but for Windows,
pop a boot disk in.  Boot to DOS and browse the file system.  See if
anything makes sense.

It shouldn't.  At all, in any way shape or form.
