Unless you are prepared to babysit and operate your own mail server, I'd suggest something easy (although maybe 
less-featured) like Google Apps. You use gmail already, so all you need to do is sign up, point your domain mx records 
to Google, and have at it.

Obviously that solution is not for everyone, but for a shop of 15 users, I can't imagine they have complicated needs or 
deep enough pockets for your time or the bloat of something like Exchange.

If you do want to do your own, the given non-Windows solutions are fine. If you want a Windows one, I have used 
hMailServer, MailEnable, and ArgoSoft successfully in the past.

I and need some advice on what software (related to mail) to use for a box that will handle about ~15 accounts.

I'd like to know how your company handle stuff related to mail, like which MTA, spamfilter and so on.
