Well, using 802.1x authentication would be an option. It's harder to implement than MAC filtering, and you'll need 
extra hardware (a RADIUS server, to name one), but it's more secure than just MAC filtering. It also involves rolling 
out your own CA, of course, as it relies on certificates.
