www.SysInternals.com is free :-) and it has awesome tools. FileMon for file sys, RegMon for registry, TDIMon for 
TCP/UDP connections. PEid is good for PE, Olly the debugger (SoftICE doesnt have any development anymore), IDA Pro the 
Disassembler, VMWare the virtual machines. These are good options.
