Just so you know they explain the adware on their main page. http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php In order to keep FREE distribution of DAEMON Tools we need to make one more important change: we offer an option to install client-side advertising software applications: We leave that decision to you, so please don't blame us that we did it that way. It was a compromise to continue the free support - we would much appreciate it if you install that ADWARE-stuff. We set- up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions, concerns or anything else that is related to that ADWARE. The forum's name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar". -----Original Message----- From: Frankie Li [mailto:securityf () cheesy ca] Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2006 10:03 AM To: Security-Basics (E-mail) Subject: Latest Daemon Tools comes with adware Dear all, I love to use daemon tools and have just downloaded the latest version from the offical site. Immediate finish the installation, I click an option to install an attached advance search function. However, the so call advance search function is aka Adware called WhenU.Save. I can't uninstal it from the control panel until I use the Process Explorer to kill all relevent processes of WhenU.Search and WhenU.Save. I than also downloead a trial version of CounterSpy (will active 15 days) to remove all the remaining files, registry key and folders. Beware guys! I am quite upset to see daemon tools becoming a adware spreader...
