PGP for desktop is the solution. You can encrypt emails, files, Disk
wipe or file wipe to disable file recovery, set password to confidential
data and it also has a VPN solution call PGPNet build-in.

Thanks for the advice and help regarding the
issue of securing the remote desktop.
Quite the majority of responses suggested
installing a VPN.

Which VPN product should I consider?  I
know googling will give me all sorts
of answers, and in the past, I did
try to attempt to get FreeSWAN
but failed.   Will have to try another
go.
