The "Hacker's Challenge" books (there are 2 editions, get both) by Mike 
Schiffman are very good. 

Also check out the "Scan of the Month" challenges from the Honeynet Project.

These are great for testing out your forensics skills.

I haven't actually played on hackthissite.org yet, but I've heard good things, 
and it looks like a lot of fun.

Of course there is always DEFCON. 

The point is to look for exercises that you will learn from. While "uplink" 
may be an entertaining video game of sorts, you are not going to learn much 
about computer security playing it.
