/var/log directory, run dmesg and see if the port was ever put in
listening mode. Bring over a clean ps, ls, du, df, lsof, netstat and
from there you can start to get a real picture of the machine.

And if you suspect it is compromised pull it off your network!  If it has
been compromised then some hacker is probably currently using it as a
jumping off point to attack other systems on your network.
