RE: Requesting info: VPN solution

Project Goal: Connect two computers, on two public networks, 
to secure data transfers between the two.  Ex: Offsite backup.

If anyone can recommend any hardware solutions that would 
establish a secure connection...  I was looking into Cisco 
1712 series...

I don't think there is a firewall vendor out there now-a-days that
doesn't do IPSEC VPN's. I've used SonicWall, Cisco, Nortel and
CheckPoint, all of which have great VPN functionality. Also you
could easily setup two Linux boxes to do the same, but seaming
you have a reasonable budget that's not much of a solution. Personally
for ease of use, SonicWall's line has always been good, just make sure
you watch out for the extra licensing for VPN in the lower-end models.
