windows update / patch release order

hello i was wondering what the release order is for patches. is it as soon 
as a patch is made *poof* its on windowsupdate.com or what, are thay 
released on technet first in pieces than a service pack on 
windowsupdate.com? id just like to be sure that im getting all the patches i 
need ASAP - ty - me
