Yesterday,due to a mix-up at CompUSA, I bought Red Hat Linux 9 for $5.28. I will install it on server that's been 
sitting in the corner of my room for last three months.

Well, it depends on what you want to learn.

The most easy flavor of Linux (IMO), it's Mandrake.
Then cames Red Hat (can I use that words? ;)).

If you want a bit more of difficulty there's the distribution I use: 
debian 3.0 stable (aka woody).

Then there could be slackware.

I have choosen debian to learn and I find it great.

First of all, I want to tell all of you what a great mailing list this 
is.  I am just starting to scratch the surface of network security, and 
this list is the major source of my information, ideas, and motivation 
to learn.

In my first of many posts, I would like to ask the group what flavor of 
Linux is recommended for a newbie.  I have no experience with Linux, and 
want to teach myself the ins and outs.  I will probably be purchasing a 
book or 2 to help get things off the ground, so a good book 
recommendation would also be appreciated.
