IMHO it is a service. RPC means RemoteProcedureCall and offers
a remote Client to execute procedures/functions on the machine
offering this service.
Which procedures/functions and what a request to a rpc-service
looks like has to be defined in a protocoll.

So: protocoll says "how to use the service" and rpc is the service.
In case of 137/139 under ms-windows it is netbios-ssn which offers
shares/ressources over network!

Please correct me or add-on whatever i forgot...
