Hi Matt

For start your experience with Linux, i think for you Knoppix  live CD
distibution.
This distribution start without problem of your base system install into
your Desktop; run on CDROM and not touch your HD.
You start experience upload ISO image, create your CD and run linux with
reboot and start CD.

Visit this site www.knoppix.org and upload ENG iso image 3.3 from mirror.
