Why not consider working in the "real world" for a bit before you decide on
your choice of graduate study? That would give you a better feel for what
you want to do with your life and thus drive a better more informed decision
on graduate school. You could easily jump into graduate school and study a
field that turns out is not all that interesting to you later.

Subject: Graduate School Advice

Greetings,

I've been lurking around the bugtraq list for quite a while and in this time
I've found that I was indeed correct in my assumption that my interest in
computer science lay within the world of security assessments and
cryptology. As I will be
graduating with a degree in mathematics in December, I've realized that I've
put off my research into graduate programs in New England and in the OR, WA
area perhaps a bit too long. This being said, I'm hoping that a few of you
who have 'made it'
in these fields could impart unto me a bit of advice about various schools
and programs in these regions that I might look into. If this message is
too off-topic, I apologize, however I could not think of a better forum
within which to ask for such
advice, the professors at my university are a bit unhelpful. A few of the
schools I'm considering include: UW, Portland State, UMass Amherst, SUNY
Stony Brook, MIT, Northeastern, UC Boulder, Boston University, and my home
university of UMaine
(where I'd probably stay within the m
athematics department and work with those specializing in number theory).

My thanks in advance,
Justin Bronder
