Intrusion.com's IDS solutions seem to be some of the best. I've
evaluated pretty much all of them worth looking at. Cisco's PIX and IOS
IDS is unfortunately hard coded in the IDS. The signatures can't really
be upgraded. Their IDS 4200 Series sensor is right up there with
Intrusion.com's product. It didn't used to be but in the usual Cisco
fashion they dumped large sums of dollars at the product and upgraded
it.

Speaking of snort.. In the Cisco world, that's the equivalent? Can it
be done effectively with their IDS options in the IOS?

We're looking at launching a bunch of customer bundles (we're an ISP)
that includes a PIX 501 but I'm not sure what it can do in the lines of
IDS... Is there something that can be loaded onto them or a companion
product?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi

We are thinking about outsourcing our Intrusion Detection System (IDS)
function. Our security group currently is not doing this...but our CIO
would like to implement this process towards the end of this year. We
just
do not have the resources within our security group to do...our plate is
too
full.

Anybody using a managed IDS Service that they are happy with and would
recommend to me? There are lots of companies that do this....(yes...I
did
google search thing). I just want some personal recommendations...so I
can
start my short list...and reduce some of the fluff from salesman. My
budget
is in the 150K range. We are a unix and win2k mixed platform shop.
