Without physically going to every machine you could use the remote deskop
function in XP to take over the machines. If your network cards support Wake
On LAN (WOL) you could remotely start the computers and then take them over.
I personally use Netmeeting for this function, but it functions in much the
same way.

If you mean wirting a script to do it, I am pretty sure it can be done but I
have never looked into it. One piece of the puzzle you will need is the net
computer \\computername command to add it to the domain once you have
renamed it via a login script.

Good Luck,

Subject: Change computer names for security.

Hi,
I work for a company that the older admin named the computers on the
domain the last name of the person that is using them. I would like to
change this. This company uses win NT 4.0 domain controller and login
scripts. My question is how do I rename the computers and keep them in the
domain correctly without going to every machine. Every computer is on the
network is XP except for the domain controller.

Thanks for the help,

Marc
