Switches failing open - What about switches behind switches?

I was about to start testing the macof utility in the dsniff suite to try
and get my switch to fail open and operate like a hub, but then realized at
some hairy places on my network (some workbenches for example) there may be
three switches in series. I may not care about any of the traffic until the
last switch before the gateway to the outside world .. The choke point where
all outbound traffic must pass. If I run something like macof against a
switch with one or more switches behind it, what will the effect be? Will
only the first switch fail open?

Thanks!

Mark
