Hi folks, The Challenge Anyone know of a good way of encrypting a file to an insecure server and then when downloaded, it is also decrypted ? A strong password istead of encryption is also possible. Trying to make the process easy as many users and many files makes for a time consuming task.
PGP or GPG are the obvious solutions. With both, you can use "conventional encryption" to use a single shared password that your small group of select users would know. The alternative would be to encrypt it to each of their private keys.
Scenario We have many small but sensitive files, and insecure file server that is backed up and on a network to thousands of users, backup et all.
Sounds like you definately could use batch encryption here. Something you could do with a simple shell script or batch mode.
Ideally, we would be able to upload the file onto the server with one password between a small number of us, who can download it and decrypt it simultaneously.
Easily done with pgp or gpg. I would highly recommend acquiring and using them since they're such a usefull tool all around.
