Theoretically autofoo creates ./configure and a proper makefile 
system, but in reality the generated scripts get bitrot thus you 
practically need autofoo everywhere.

New platforms for example don't have their gnu triplet in outdated 
configure scripts.

Today the the best practice (IMO) is _not_ shipping configure, but 
requiring autofoo/CMake in source tarballs.

I haven't had that problem (yet), but that would explain why I'm seeing 
more things like autogen.sh included in tarballs for software now.
