To mailing lists,
I am doing a project on "Virtualization of Wireless Networks", wherein I have to virtualize the physical WLAN card into
multiple virtual WLAN cards using VirtualWiFi software....
I will be using two laptops for my project. One will be Windows 7 OS, which will be capturing the packets and will be
acting as Iperf Server. And second laptop, which will be Windows XP OS, in which I will do the virtualization of
physical WLAN card into two virtual WLAN cards and it will be acting as an Iperf Client. Both these laptops are
wirelessly connected with each other.
My tasks are :
1) To measure the throughput of both the physical and virtual WLAN cards. For this, I have to use the Iperf tool in
order to send the UDP packets with different traffics. As soon as I run the commands on the Iperf Client & server, I
have to capture the packets in the wireshark in order to generate the IO graph (Throughput graph) for the physical and
virtual wlan card.
My query is:  As I will be capturing the packets in the wireshark, I will be getting the packets from all the IP
addresses. But, as I only want to measure the throughput of Physical card, then how I should filter the packets only
for that card ?  Is it that, I have to give the following command
ip.addr== ip address of the physical card in the filter tab of wireshark . After which I can get the throughput graph
from the IO graph.
2) How to capture the packets for the two virtual WLAN cards simultaneously in the wireshark ?
My project is, to virtualize the physical WLAN card into multiple virtual cards wherein the user will be able to
connect to multiple wireless networks with just one physical wlan card.
In order to implement this, I have virtualized my physical card into two virtual cards, each of which have different IP
addresses. That is, virtual card 1 has one IP address and virtual card 2 has different IP address.
My query is: If i want to capture the packets coming only from both the virtual cards, then how I will be able to
filter the packets for two different IP addresses simultaneously ? so that I can get the combined throughput graph of
both the virtual cards simultaneously.
Kindly do provide me with the solution. Awaiting your feedback.

Regards,Prachi
