No, they just have to send a packet TO all hosts in the net, they dont need to listen to all pakets as the response paket will be sent to the nic directly, not as a broadcast.
i mean, otherwise, you would have to set jumpers for the IP/Appletalk/IPX addreses, right?
Those protocols dont have anything to do with Ethernet, they are just software above the ethernet-driver. You can f.e. also run IP over PPP, and PPP does not know any broadcasts.
