No released version was used. The version was used was the version built from the source I'd just checked in.
This is checked into the main and x.9 branches.mail = CVS head?
main = the branch that has the CVS head (I assume "mail" was a typo).
Is this in 0.9.5 release?
No, because the 0.9.5 release came out before I checked in that change. Any future 0.9.x release will have it, as I checked it into the x.9 branch.
