p.s. why don't add "-Wall" to the compiler options? it will help to find such error.
Not all compilers that could be used to build libpcap or tcpdump support "-Wall".
However, if you create an empty file named ".devel" in the top-level source directory of libpcap or tcpdump, the configure script will add some additional -W options to the build, as well as adding support for "make depend"; both of those require that you use GCC.
