Tcpdump strange behavior on a no carrier interface

Hi all,

I have a stange tcpdump behavior when listening on a NO CARRIER
interface. Some traffic seem so be dumped of an "unknown ethertype".
I have a very bad ethenet link connected to this interface but i ask
myself about tcpdump bahaviour on a no carrier interface.
Did it dump traffic really send or it is just traffic that "seem" to
be sent (but not send to the physical layer)?
Did that mean that some ethernet traffic can go out of my (no carrier)
ethernet card ?
