My only concern is that the hack means we might not, as per the comment from the Ethereal code, correctly handle a pre-libpcap 0.4 PPP capture. I don't know whether that'd be a severe enough risk - I was a little nervous that tcpdump users *might* be less tolerant of that than Ethereal users. So far, however, I've not seen any complaints from Ethereal users, so it might be that there are few enough captures of that sort for it to matter.
