Taken from the snort site https://snort.org/documents/registered-vs-subscriber There are two sets of rules distributed on the Snort.org web site. The "Community Ruleset" is freely available to all users, and is licensed under the GPLv2. The "Snort Subscriber Rule Set" will be made available to users in the following ways: Subscribers will receive rulesets in real-time as they are released to Cisco customers - 30 days ahead of registered users Registered users will receive rulesets 30 days after Subscribers. Unregistered users will receive access to the community ruleset. ZjQcmQRYFpfptBannerEnd Hi, I am currently doing an internship and I am working on embedding Snort in a software to detect vulnerabilities in fabric's network (OT environment). I have talked to someone who recommend me to use Cisco Talos rules, so a subscription set of rules. Due to fact it is non free I would like to know what the difference between community and subscription rules is in term of content, number of rules, using context, etc. I do not know if it is the correct place to ask my question, but I was not able to find any other contact information. Any help would be very appreciated, thank you in advance.
