machine/guest operating system with Windows 10/Windows Server as the host operating system.

This would normally be a question for the PfSense forums.However, I happen to have 2.4.4-RELEASE (versus p3) and it has 
Snort 2.9.14.1 in the repository which is the latest build released on the snort website.
