Snort Community Rules

Greetings,

I want to evaluate Snort as my final year project based on the community rules by running attacks and see which alerts 
I get. However, I ran multiple attacks such as a synflood attack but it does not seem to alert me unless I write a 
specific rule in the local.rules file. Can anyone help me with this? I would really appreciate it.
