snort 2.9.6.2 is EOL since March 2016... http://blog.snort.org/2016/03/snort-2962-is-eol.html the EOL policy is here... https://www.snort.org/eol2.9.8.3 and 2.9.9.0 are the two supported version... the recommendation is to upgrade to the latest for the longest support period...
