Snort keeps shutting down

Hello

 

We have a pfSense/Netgate SG-8860 appliance running pfSense 2.3.2 -p1. It is also running Snort.

 

Periodically, snort will shut down. Sometimes I login to the appliance and see the Snort service is stopped. I click 
START, and it starts and runs for a time, usually at least a few days, then it will stop again.

 

I have checked the snort global setting "Click to output detailed messages to the system log when Snort is starting and 
stopping", but unless I am lucky enough  to be logged in and viewing the log around the time it crashes, the snort 
messages will have left the system log GUI interface (I suppose they may be visible outside of the GUI but I don't know 
how to view them). 

 

I can certainly search the logs for errors if I could figure out how to pull out the raw snort and/or system log files 
to a local PC to view.

 

Sorry - really new at pfSense and Snort.
