first, please always remember to trim irrelevant text when you reply to a digest... second, i don't see where he said that tcpdump /must/ be that version... only that one's system may have newer already installed... they don't even use tcpdump in that "recipe"... the first point is that the version you have will most likely suffice for your needs /if/ you ever need to use it ;) the second point is that snort does not require/need/use tcpdump at all ;) -- NOTE: No off-list assistance is given without prior approval.
