Well, I used the command: sudo /usr/local/snort/bin/snort -b -k none -u snort -g snort -c /usr/local/snort/etc/snort.conf -i eth1 And when I looked at the /var/log/snort directory again, it shows that the log files are still blank: drwxr-xrwx 18 root root 4096 Mei 27 14:17 .. -rw------- 1 snort snort 0 Mei 27 14:18 tcpdump.log.1401171492 -rw------- 1 snort snort 0 Mei 27 14:18 snort.u2.1401171492 -rw------- 1 snort snort 0 Mei 27 14:18 snort.log -rw------- 1 snort snort 0 Mei 27 14:49 snort.alert drwxr-xrwx 2 snort snort 4096 Mei 27 14:51 . If you want that your output directive work make sure that you do not the the -b command line switch and also -A full is the default you can skip that.
