Dear rmkml, Firstly thanks for your attention, On Tue, Apr 22, 2014 at 9:49 PM, rmkml <rmkml () yahoo fr> wrote:
ok could you write your test on pcap with snort/tcpdump like please ? (for replay your tests, full payload please)
I've been testing it with a simple get request since the rule should capture all get requests.
another test: could you remove your "ipvar" to any please ? (only for testing) alert tcp any any -> any any (msg:"Test rule"; flow:to_server,established; content:"GET"; http_method; sid:1;)
Already did this and nothing changed.
What is your snort version please ?
Version 2.9.6.0 GRE (Build 47)
ids mode ? span/tap ? ips/inline mode ? nfq ? afpacket? pfring ?
It's running on IDS mode with default daq settings.
How you start snort please ?
For testing I just pass the snort conf to snort and set the logging mode as console: snort -c snort.conf -A console -k none
Post your full snort.conf please ?
Here is the snort.conf content (I trimmed the comments) (And this conf correctly runs on a physical server and my same http_header; rule fires the alert, so I'm pretty sure that this issue related with VMWare instance... ) ipvar HOME_NET [10.10.10.0/24,172.16.16.0/24] ipvar EXTERNAL_NET any ipvar DNS_SERVERS $HOME_NET ipvar SMTP_SERVERS $HOME_NET ipvar HTTP_SERVERS $HOME_NET ipvar SQL_SERVERS
